Enjoy the benefits of earthing!



As human beings, we operate in three interconnected dimensions – body, mind and spirit. Imbalances in either body, mind or spirit negatively affect the other dimensions as well. So when we support our physical body, we also experience spiritual and mind-based benefits!

Several years ago, I experienced a health crisis. I couldn’t sleep. I was experiencing menopause in full force.  And I was irritable and it affected every aspect of my life, especially my relationships and my ability to work in my healing practice.

In my desperate search for answers, I discovered the book, Earthing: The most important health discovery ever! by Clint Ober. As a former engineer, it made so much sense to me.

After following his recommendations, I began to sleep soundly. All night long. My cortisol (stress hormone) levels dropped and my parasympathetic nervous system was activated. I felt relaxed and calm. I was personally experiencing and benefitting from what is known as grounding or earthing.

What is earthing and how does it help us?

Earthing is when we have direct contact with the earth. This allows us to gain access to a layer of free electrons on the surface of the earth.

As humans, we are bio-electrical beings. The cells in our bodies communicate with each other through bio-electricity. This is not surprising because the human body, made up of more than 70% water, is a natural conductor of electricity.

When we are earthing on a regular basis, we naturally experience a multitude of health benefits. These benefits include a reduction of inflammation, pain and stress and an improvement in blood flow, energy, and sleep.

So how do we earth/ground ourselves?

Earthing occurs when we regularly have direct contact with the earth. This occurs naturally through outdoor activities such as walking barefoot on the grass or the beach, camping, hiking, walking through a rainforest, fishing or hugging a tree. Even if you live in a city, you can take time to connect with natural earth energies in some way every day. The benefits are remarkable.

You can also purchase earthing/grounding products to use in your home and workspaces. I have experienced benefits from earthing products, but I find direct contact with the earth to be far more satisfying. After all, indigenous communities have experienced experiencing a mutually-supportive relationship with the earth that is both physical and spiritual for thousands of years!

I also find it helpful in my home and workspace to have the grounding energies of crystals around me. Particularly earth-toned stones and crystals.
